The Librarian: Return to King Solomon’s Mine (NR)

We hope you are starting to use and enjoy our new catalog.  We love it.  There are some things that we haven’t quite figured out.  And there may be an easier way to do some things, but we are having a great time learning.

If you have internet access at home, you can search the catalog, renew materials you have checked out, and place hold requests, too.

We would love to have your email address.  The catalog will send a courtesy reminder that your materials are due back or inform you that you have holds waiting to be picked up.

The Bookmark society will be meeting April 25 at 6:30.  The book they will be reading and discussing is A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini.  They have a great time and would love to see new faces.

If we lived in the world of Fahrenheit 451,

what book would you memorize?

Easter         Mar 28

The Bookmark society will be meeting March 28 at 6:30 pm.  The book they will be reading and discussing is Dreamers of the Day by Mary Doria Russell.

To Jane, Vicky, Karen, Susan and Megan, we need to give a great big THANK YOU and to Liz Barker, Rachel Coffield, and Haley Leonard for helping re-barcode materials!

35,000 barcodes later!!  We finished putting barcodes (the numbers we scan so we know exactly what book you are checking out) on all our materials.  There are still some titles that must be lurking in a corner hidden somewhere that we couldn’t find, because there are still some that need to be done.  Thank you for

being patient.  We hope you will enjoy the

benefits of our new system!

Even though February is the shortest month,
it feels like the longest!

If you enjoy trivia quizzes try  Sporcle.com.  There are quizzes in literature, sports, history,  geography …. It can be fun and helps keep your brain active!,  but the time limits can sometimes be stressful.

In addition to Valentine’s Day, February 14 is also Ferris Wheel Day!

We are busy preparing to migrate to a new catalog.  Because we are joining a consortium, we will need to update patron barcodes.  So you should be getting a new barcode on your card soon.

You may have noticed someone new at the library.  Rachel C.offield  Works at the Community Library in Sunbury.  She is working toward Master’s degree in Library Science and needed to have practicum/intern experience.  We are so lucky to have her here to help us out during the last push.  As we only have about a month until we go live on our new catalog.

Magazines

Many patrons have asked about our annual magazine discard.  It will probably be in late February.  Between the extreme amount of books in our booksale and the desperation to finish putting new barcodes on everything, we might need to push it back a little later than usual this year.

Crafting

A scrapbooking group has begun meeting at the library.  They are anxious to get more folks involved. They are currently meeting every other Friday, but if there is a day that would suit you better let us know.  Children are welcome to come along, too.

Did you know that part of the library’s collection is shelved in the basement?

Are you a MYSTERY LOVER?  (In the dark basement there are many bodies … of work.

They’re bloody good!

Do you like WESTERNS?

On the WEST side of the basement, we have some mighty good yarns! Yee Haw!

Once again there are changes happening at the library!  You may notice that the DVD twirl rack is gone.  DVD cases have been moved to the same set of shelves that videos were on.  We found the spin arrangement pretty confusing at times, so we hope

Barcodes

Made a New Year’s Resolution?

The library has  materials that can help you as you try to loose weight, eat healthier, exercise more, quit smoking….

Weight Watchers now has a website you can join.  To make it a little easier to help keep track of food, fitness & weight goals.  My Fitness Pal is a great app to help keep you on track to reach your fitness goals.

If you are trying to quit smoking, you might try Whyquit.com.  This website seems to be geared towards people who are struggling to quit and have tried the standard methods.

Scrapbooking

A scrapbooking group has begun meeting at the library.  They get together from 10:00 to 7:00 every other Friday. The women have been making great progress in getting their pictures beautifully organized.  They would really like more folks to join them.
